Grizedale Oak

This oak tree was cut in 1790 and made into a roof beam which held up an Ickenthwaite farm barn until about 17 years ago when some of the beams were replaced. It probably started growing around 1700.

Having sat outside for many years the rain and weather has created a set of ravines adding to it's visual appeal. When I opened my Grizedale studio in 2019 this was one of the first local pieces of wood I was given, and is still one of my favourites.
