Cherryburn 2018 Season Kicks off!
Share
Back at Cherryburn in the press room, on Thursday's demonstrating traditional printing on our 19th century Albion relief press. It is half term this week, so lots of families and children popped in for some printing fun. The press is working well, and with quality ink and damp paper, all our young volunteers were able to print a professional standard print! We use copy blocks which are made from Thomas Bewick original blocks being printed and then the print is photographed. This is used to etch the line work onto a metal plate which is attached to a type high piece of wood. We then have a block ready made for traditional printing. We printed the Heron which is a lovely engraving. All the children were delighted and the parents were very proud! Great start to the season. I left it to the parents to photograph their children, and I took a pic of Paul Goldsmith who demonstrates with me in the press room.
